What is Mardi Gras?

Although the history of Mardi Gras dates back thousands of years, it has only been stirring up fun in the United States a few hundred from when French explorers landed in Louisiana in 1699. Mardi Gras marks the culmination of the Carnival season a lavish, festive period in Christianity that stretches from Epiphany on Jan. 6 through Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras French for “Fat Tuesday” is the day before Ash Wednesday that refers to the last chance to eat rich, fatty foods before Lent which, for many, includes fasting or, at the very least, the act of giving something up for the 40 days until Easter.

Mardi Gras Flower Colors and Their Meaning

From balls and parades to balconies and door fronts, Mardi Gras flowers are an integral part of the festival's decorations. The holiday's signature colors — gold for power, purple for justice, and green for faith — stem from the first Rex parade in 1872 and have adorned all Mardi Gras events ever since. Mardi Gras flower bouquets boast lush greenery and purple and gold blossoms whether including tulips, roses, sunflowers, or carnations and bring life and energy to the celebration. Our extraordinary florists masterfully design each and every one of our joyous bouquets, making sure your Mardi Gras flower delivery will be the hit of the party!
